Are you a sitting duck?

What are the things that makes you a sitting duck to all those evil people out there? A less secure house? Insecure password? Computer security holes? Ghosts? insecure financial situation? Or a low functioning brain?

All of the above could be a threat to you and lets focus on "low functioning brain", because it has a big impact on the others mentioned above. So how does a low functioning brain makes you suffer? Lets start by defining the qualities of a low functioning brain.

Absent mindedness

This is one of the major weaknesses of humans. Because most of us are spending half of our precious time searching for misplaced objects, re-asking others what they had just said....etc. And absent mindedness not only takes away our time, it takes away from us the most precious of all times: the present. You let your senses on auto-pilot and then you are not living in the present, and you might get hit by a truck, get pick pocketed. Between these absent minded periods our brain is not taking the huge amount of input which comes from our sensory organs. So you cannot say that "you did not notice a thing" but you'll have to say "I rejected the sensory input of that thing".

The cure to Absent mindedness

The most effective anti-absent mindedness tool is "conscious attention". What I mean from this is that you'll have to pay attention to the here and now. You can do this while walking along the pavements, just pay attention to all the details that you are receiving from your senses. The colors, smells, sounds, heat&cold....etc. You might want to do this an hour a day and start increasing the time until you are paying total attention to your surroundings at any given time.

Very very bad habits

Some of us have developed very bad habits that prevent us from performing at the out best brain capacity. One example is that, people just say things without thinking about them. When they are struck with a question, they have habituated to ask others for the solution right away, not even taking some time to figure it out by themselves. These behaviors are practiced for years that they are second nature to those people.

Breaking these bad habits

You can go out alone all by yourself and just try to answer the questions that comes up to you mind, for example "Why is that man doing XYZ?", "Why is this object placed here?".... so on. You might want to do this exercise for about a minimum of 21 days (thats the time it takes to install a new habit). By doing this you are using your brain, not the brains of others. So the benefits are reaped by you yourself.

The term "Use it or lose it" is very true when it comes to training your brain. So invest even a little time for the improvement of your brain because it is your ultimate survival tool.

The Advantages of Exercising Your Brain

The main advantage that you gain by exercising your brain is, higher productivity. So lets explore how improving your brain aids productivity. Lets start with time: the most valuable resource ever. Bad memory is the king at killing time, how many hours have you spent searching for your keys, hat, shoes, phone....etc? And if you add up all the time that you have spend on searching for misplaced objects, they would add up to a week. And if you can cut down that time leak even with a small percentage, it will enable you to gain much free time that you can either work on other productivity enhancing activities or just relaxing. And the #2 time waster in our list is slow thinking. If you are unable to think clear during tense situations or even normal situations, it could cause you to waste a lot of your valuable time. Because you'll be re-doing stuff that you've screwed up due to your lack of thinking skills.

Money is another resource that is lost because of a low functioning brain. Forgetting stuff in your shopping list is a great example for this. If you forgot something that you were supposed to buy at a certain shop. You would be spending gas to travel back to that shop and buy the item. So this would be an unwanted waste of money, and not to mention the harmful things that you are contributing to your environment.

Education is another field where the brain plays a major role in survival. If you can then and there memorize the stuff that your lecturer is speaking about, then it would eliminate the need to relearn the stuff again, which is tedious and time consuming thing. Getting excited and anxious while an examination or interview would block you from performing at your best. If you have improved your brain's thinking and memory patterns, your academic life would be something to enjoy rather that endure. You would be spending the extra time that you have gained by not re-learning the material or doing other unwanted anti-productive stuff. And of course it would permit you to get higher grades.

When it comes to brain skills, your vocabulary permits you to express your self to others well. And if you have a bad vocabulary, you run the risk of being misunderstood by others due to your lack of self expression. And this could ruin your social life.

There are endless reason for pursuing to build up a better brain. And making a decision to improve your brain indeed would make you an intelligent person because you've made one of the most intelligent decisions of all!

Do you have a low functioning brain?

By "Low functioning brain", I'm not referring to a malfunctioning brain, rather a brain that is not functioning at it's best. How do you know that your brain is not at it's best? Well if you forget your keys, books and other stuff. And if you are getting low grades in school. And other situations that has some connection with the above.

Were you totally oblivious that your brain was not working at it's best? Well if you did then I'm sure that you were either searching for ways to improve it or, just accepted it as it is and never even bothered to take any action for it. You might have ignored to take action to this problem simply asking the question "What is the point?".(Or you were just lazy to do the hard work that is required to tackle this problem)

What is the point?

Why on earth would you want to have a brain which is faster, accurate than the one you are given? Or can it be developed? The answer to the second question is: Yes! We'll soon discuss about the answer to the former soon.

Lets assume that the human brain is a computer. The brain at our birth is like one of those brand new computers without any operating system. The toddler brain has the simplest functions like moving, crying...etc. And the computer is only capable of doing the things the it's BIOS is capable of doing. The toddler sucks up information from his background so fast enabling him to learn faster. And installing an operating system on the computer will make it more usable. So the basic idea is that you can always program your brain, like a computer. And the only problem is that you think that you cannot.

So improving the performance of your brain is indeed something is within your ability to do. And the benefits that you gain are accumulative. So give it a shot.
